On June 10th and 11th, we learned that 70% of sports managers and coaches in Europe are actively working to promote environmental sustainability. These dedicated leaders come from Italy, Spain, Austria, Greece, Finland, and Croatia, and they are all part of the innovative GreenAca project, funded by Erasmus+ Sport.
Managers and coaches involved in this project are implementing various initiatives, from recycling to completely avoiding plastic, showcasing how the sports industry can lead the way in the fight to preserve the environment. Their efforts encompass not only everyday practices but also long-term strategies to reduce the ecological footprint of sports events and organizations.
During the meeting, organized by AiCS and coordinated by CSIT – World Sports Games, we discussed future directions and opportunities to further enhance sustainable practices in sports. Ideas were exchanged about educating athletes and audiences, implementing new technologies, and exploring collaboration opportunities with local communities and environmental protection organizations.
Overall, the GreenAca project aims to inspire and encourage sports communities across Europe to embrace and promote green initiatives, ensuring that sports become synonymous with environmental responsibility.
