International Youth Sport Camp in Rovinj – A Celebration of Inclusivity and Sport!

From March 25-31, 2024, Health Life Academy successfully hosted the International Youth Sport Camp (IYSC) in the beautiful coastal city of Rovinj, Croatia. The week-long camp welcomed over 60 young people from across Europe, creating an incredible space where participants could explore inclusive sports, build skills, and form lasting connections.

The program, held at scenic venues like Resort Amarin and Valbruna sports facilities, offered a packed schedule of activities focusing on leadership, sports event organization, and inclusivity, especially for people with intellectual disabilities (PwID). Through dynamic workshops, group discussions, and active roles in the Special Power League (SPL) games, participants gained hands-on experience in managing inclusive sports events. They collaborated with professionals, trained with PwID athletes, and developed practical skills in event planning and intercultural communication.

Key moments included:

  • Inspiring Symposium: Participants attended a dedicated symposium on sports inclusivity, where experts shared innovative practices for working with PwID. It was an impactful experience that provided both practical tools and a deeper understanding of inclusive sports.
  • Special Power League: A highlight of the camp, the SPL allowed participants to engage directly in organizing inclusive sports, fostering empathy and resilience while creating an unforgettable shared experience.
  • Cultural Exchange and Team Building: Through social gatherings, city tours, and intercultural evenings, participants bonded across nationalities, embracing diversity and learning about each other’s cultures.

The camp closed with participants receiving Youthpass certificates, officially recognizing their newly acquired skills. Reflecting on the week, participants expressed immense gratitude, noting how they gained not only technical skills but also friendships, intercultural awareness, and a stronger sense of social responsibility.

The International Youth Sport Camp was a huge success, with lasting impacts on all involved, and serves as a model for youth empowerment through sports. Stay tuned for more updates on how these young leaders are making a difference in their communities!
