14. SPL – New friends have joined our project

The 14th edition of the “Special Power League” project – a sports league for people with disabilities – was held in Donja Stubica (June 10-11, 2022).

Another wonderful edition of the project was held in the sports hall and football field in Donja Stubica, where our participants had great fun for 2 days at various sports and other activities. This edition is of special importance because the participants of the Center for Education Krapinske Toplice also had their debut performance, as they excelled in all the sports they played.

Participants in the 14th edition of the SPL project were the Association ‘Pogled’ from Nedelišće, the Association for Down Syndrome 21 Split, the School of Education Pula, the Association for Down Syndrome – Zagreb, the Association for Down Syndrome – Rijeka 21 and the hosts the Center for Education Krapinske Toplice.

On Friday afternoon in the sports hall Donja Stubica, our participants had the opportunity to play handball, but for some for the first time to play floorball. Floorball club Hidraulika Kurelja Donja Stubica presented and demonstrated the sport to our participants, so they could later try and play the sport of floorball. After floorball, a series of handball matches were played in the hall, and the special guests at the matches were the players of RK PPD Zagreb Vlado Matanović, Filip Perić and Karpo Sirotić. After the matches, the handball players handed out gifts and prizes to the participants.

Early on Saturday morning, on the football field Donja Stubica, 6 teams were ready for a series of football matches. The following teams demonstrated their football knowledge, skills and sportsmanship: NK Istra 1961 Special Power Team, HNK Hajduk Special Power Team, NK Sloga Čakovec Special Power Team, HNK Rijeka Special Power Team, GNK Dinamo Special Power Team and debutant NK Donja Stubica Special Power Team. The participants had great fun playing football and participating in other activities and showed great satisfaction with the meeting. A special surprise guest at football matches was Davor Dretar, who participated in the awarding of trophies and medals and joint painting.

As additional content to the project, the participants visited the Museum of Krapina Neanderthals in the afternoon.

We as organizers are proud that together with our friends we have the opportunity to create a story based on socializing, inclusion, sports and entertainment. We are looking forward to future meetings and we hope that through continuous activities we will motivate even more children and young people to actively integrate into society through sports.
